Tattoo Care

Being careful is the key to have a vibrant tattoo

Tattoos are becoming progressively popular in the younger world. It has been regarded as a bold way of expressing your self and your thoughts. Tattoos can be an articulate form of depicting your emotions too e.g. tattooing the name of your beloved on the arm.

However, there are many points to be kept in mind before you decide to have a tattoo done on your body and after it is applied on your skin.

As we know that tattoos are done with the help of needles. Puncturing ink needles in to the skin dermis is the way to perform this procedure. This lets ink stay permanently on the skin. It is advisable to be sans alcohol before this procedure begins as alcohol makes blood thin and does not let tattoo stay longer. The selection of a good tattoo designer is must for this application. Ensure that the artist is well qualified, careful and takes utmost precaution in sterilizing all the tools used during the procedure.

Once you have ensured that you have chosen a trustworthy, sound artist who will do his job efficiently. It becomes your responsibility to be careful and follow after care resolutions. To your surprise, even a best tattoo can be spoiled if proper after care is not followed. Hence, what are those after care rules, one must be abided by?

Bandage is mandatory

Artist covers up the tattoo with the bandage to prevent airborne bacteria to penetrate through the wound. Tattoo is indeed a wound at that premature stage. Tattoo artist will assign a time frame until that time period is over; tattoo should not be exposed at any cost. You will have to be patient and hold on to your excitement of showing off your new tattoo to your friends and family. Respect the time period given by the artist for the safety of your skin and of your tattoo.

Washing carefully is must

Once the time period given by the artist lapses, it is the time to wash and clean the tattoo carefully. Wash it with antibacterial liquid soap and lukewarm water. Carefully wipe it off with a dry, sterilised towel. However, antibacterial soaps should not be used in a regular practice.

The artist in all cases advises the regular application of an ointment. Normally it should be applied for 2-3 days. Apply a thin layer and ensure not to overdo the ointment. It is applied to give the shine to your tattoo.

Guidelines for bathing and swimming

A normal bathing, showering ritual can be carried out provided proper care steps are followed. Soaking the tattoo in a hot tub or in a bath for longer duration can harm the tattoo. Prevention on this is advisable for at least 2-3 weeks. Regular showering is all right, however if soap or shampoo hit your tattoo, good to wash it off instantly. It is advisable not to go for swimming for minimum of 2 weeks.

Itching sensation

While the wounded skin is healing, certain kinds of symptoms are witnessed. Scabbing or peeling of skin is normally experienced. These are the symptoms that your tattoo is healing. If excessive scabbing is felt that would mean either the artist did not do his job correctly or the tattoo and its chemicals have not suited your skin type. However, if the normal itching or scabbing is felt, simply slap it or put lotion on it. Please bear in mind that there is no need to panic. All these sensations have a cure to it.

Protection from ultraviolet rays

Sun and direct UV rays can harm your tattoo and its long life. As you have been protecting your skin with sun blocks, a tattoo needs to be protected your tattoo in the similar manner. Before stepping out under sun, do remember to apply a good SPF sun block on your skin as well as on your tattoo.

Guidelines vary from person to person, but few customary rules do not change. By being careful, you can enjoy your tattoo for years.
