How to take good care of your Tattoo

As soon as you are done with your tattoo I’m sure you are going to think about how you are going to take care of it. Remember that once you leave the tattoo parlor, the tattoo artist is not going to be responsible for any problems you might have later on if you fail to take care of your tattoo properly. Tattoo care is very important and vital for you to avoid any kind of infection. Even a great tattoo may easily turn into a terrible disaster if you neglect it or fail to take proper care of it after the procedure. 

Preceding your exit from the tattoo parlor, the tattoo artist will cover your fresh tattoo with a bandage. This is done in order to prevent bacteria as well as an infection. It is important that you do not remove the bandage for two hours subsequent to the tattoo.

  

After removing the bandage, the next best thing to do is to wash the tattoo. Use lukewarm water and liquid antibacterial soap in order to wash the ointment and blood from the tattoo area. Make sure you do not use a washcloth or any other rough or coarse material. On the other hand your hand will do just fine. If you follow these simple instructions on tattoo care your tattoo shall be just fine and you will face no problems. 

Pat the area of the tattoo firmly with a clean sanitized towel in order to get it completely dry, after this use a bit of the ointment. The ointment must have vitamin A and D in it. However, an alternate to it is, Bacitracin or a parallel antibacterial ointment is okay. These tips are very useful for proper tattoo care.  

Make sure that you do not use Neosporin, though it is great for cuts and wounds it does not do as well for tattoos. Some people may have an allergic reaction to Neosporin and hence may cause little red bumps which when they disappear, make the ink disappear as well. 

When you are done using the ointment for 3 to 5 days, make sure that the tattoo is constantly looked after and kept clean, after this you can start using mild lotion instead of the ointment. The objective of this is to keep your skin soft and vary from any infection. Taking a shower with your new tattoo is advisable but, only while it is okay to get your tattoo slightly wet. Do not soak it or get soap on it yet. Also, avoid swimming regardless of whether you are swimming in a pool or in the sea.

In a few days time your tattoo will start peeling and scabbing a little. If the scabbing is a lot then it may mean that the tattoo has been done badly. Apply moist compresses to your scabs for 5 minutes at least two or three times a day. This will soften it and the scabs will come off on their own much later. Tattoo care means that you will experience some minor discomfort when your tattoo begins to heal but do not pick at it or scratch it.  

Proper tattoo care recommends that you stay out of the sun so long as the tattoo is still sore. Restrict the amount of friction or rubbing from clothes, also avoid putting your tattoo under running water.
